Man On a Boat

February 28, 2013

week 4 challenge: a photo of a person // write a fiction character based on it

Jose wakes up every day at 5:30 am, without fail and without an alarm clock. Normally people would be lazy and full of complaints, but he smiles at the blessings he has been given and eagerly runs off to his boat. He has had it ever since his father passed, and every day he would attempt to catch fish for his family.
By sunrise he pushes the boat of the shore, runs towards it with his fishing rod and climbs in. The whole morning and afternoon he sits, patiently waiting for the fish to grab his bait. Usually, he would catch only at most five during the scorching sun hours.
When the sun sets, he rows as far as he can go and watches as the colors of the sky transition to bright red orange, warm yellow, soft pink and purple, and finally deep sea blue.
Jose comes home to his family, his children coming home from public school, eager to have a full meal. He smiles and hugs them, giving the three fish he caught that day to his wife. They sit around the table, give thanks to God and quickly finish their food. He brings his two sons to their mattresses and kisses them goodnight.
It was just another ordinary day, and that was how he liked it.

I took this picture last Christmas in our beach vacation, and this man caught my eye.
Speaking of beach vacations--I'm headed off tomorrow with my friends, it's my first time actually :)
Sorry for not updating, my internet crashed during the weekend, and lotsa projects to catch up to.

p.s. listen to Wafia, I just find her and her album amazing, I hope you do too.

Have a great weekend, everyone :)

  1. I love this! I've been looking forward to this weeks challenge, sadly I haven't been out much with my camera, I kept forgetting to take it places with me, which means I have no pictures of random people:(
I'm sure I'll come up with something! :D

  5. What a beautiful photo. This post is kind of like the "what's their story" game, where you make up a story for strangers. :D
