Weekend's Wary Ways: Color (Or the Lack of It)

June 01, 2013

I haven't been blogging much about photography and tips and weekend's wary ways and I feel guilty. This was my first ever weekly feature in Definitely Screaming and I've given up on it a few times because weekly things were hard for me. But nonetheless, it's never too late to go back. I don't ever want to sound like a teacher in these posts, but more like a friend in a non-creepy way that likes thinking that she knows what she's talking about without using any fancy words, okay? Okay, let's get started.

Color in photography is one of my favorite things to take pictures of because, well, it's fun to find and play around with the picture. People absolutely love bright colors and I, for one, am a sucker for it. Just make sure the photo is compact, simple but striking. Better to choose one color with different shades, or one shade of about three or four colors. We don't want to be overwhelmed by a rainbow, unless of course if you're a three year old. (just kidding here, everyone.)

But on the other hand, neutral or simple black and white photos have a much darker and eerie approach. It makes everything look more dramatic and focused on the subject, no matter how simple or dull it is. It also gives your eyes a rest, because too much of everything is bad, ammi right? It's up to you guys how you like to take your pictures, whether with bright colored flowers or grey scale raindrops. After all, it is your, and only your, photograph.

How about it, yey or ney for colors?
